“Research by Filsinger and Thomas found that negative communication during interpersonal interaction was predictive of disengagement a year and a half later.” (22) In order to avoid a breakup, a couple must steer away from destructive behavior. To do this, however, takes work and a lot of love.
"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres." (1 Corinthians 13:4-7 NIV)
A couple that has the love like Paul mentions above, will be able to stay together forever. If they endure the hardships together and are kind to one another, they will be golden.
“Sexual infidelity refers to sexual activity with someone other than one’s long-term partner” (23) I believe that this sort of infidelity begins before the sexual act. Infidelity occurs when a man or woman looks at someone lustfully. “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart. (Matthew 5:27-28 NIV)
